Apply for a school place
What you need to know when applying for a place
Before you apply for your child’s school place at Alderman Pounder for September 2023, please make sure that your child is the right age – meaning they were born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019 inclusive.
If you apply online or using a paper form, you will be asked to pick four schools in order of preference. One of these schools should be your catchment school, although it does not have to be your top choice.
You can apply for a school place from 7th November 2022 and the closing date for primary (and infant) school applications in England is 15th January 2023. You will then find out whether your child has a place with us on 17th April 2023.
The school’s catchment area is south of Eskdale Drive, Beeston, and can be viewed in detail here. We are proud of our tradition of warmly welcoming pupils from outside this area. All children are part of our family once they walk through our gates for the first time. If you live outside Beeston and have any questions at all about how applying for a place with us might work, then please do get in touch with the office.
How to apply
Children can join Nursery at the after their 2nd birthday if there are spaces available.
Once you have decided that you would like your child to attend our Nursery you will be asked to complete a registration form giving us yours and your child’s details. This is so that we can contact you regarding your child’s place and keep you up to date with transition dates closer to the time. It is vital that you inform us of any change of details. On this form there is also an opportunity for you to inform us of any Special Educational Needs or Medical Conditions that your child may have. The reason that we ask for this information is so that we can ensure that we contact any other relevant services to support us with your child’s transition.
In the Autumn term before your child is eligible to start school full time, you should apply for a school place through the online process with Nottinghamshire County Council:
If you cannot use the online form, please telephone: 0300 500 8080 to make your application.
Applications open on the 7th November and close on the 15th January 2023.
Places are allocated according to our admissions arrangements criteria which are published below. If you are unsuccessful in your application, there is an appeals process (please speak to the office for details).
Primary school admissions timeline for entry into 2023 - 2024
Applications open for applications for places at our school on Monday 7th November 2022.
National closing date for first admissions: 15th January 2023 (admissions received after this date will be considered late, but will still be considered).
National offer date for all Infant, Junior and Primary Schools: 17th April 2023.
Admissions to year groups other than the intake year
Applications for admission to other year groups will normally be considered in relation to the published admission limit (70 pupils at Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School). If places are available within the year group, applications will be considered in accordance with the Admission Criteria and the child will normally be admitted to the school.
Further guidance on the way in which applications are dealt with including:
- Preferences for more than one school
- Late applications
- The way waiting lists are maintained and used
can be found in Nottinghamshire County Council’s booklet and website.
Following a brief induction meeting for parents towards the end of June, we provide an induction programme in the summer term for our new Foundation Stage children and their families. Induction packs provide information about what happens in school and includes a number of forms for parents to complete and sign. New children start school full time after the summer holidays. If you think your child may take a while to settle, then a part-time timetable can be discussed with a view to building to full time very quickly.
New children settle very quickly at our school; we encourage independence from the start but are also mindful that some need a little more time to get used to routines.
Those children, who join us part way through the year may start school on an agreed date which is negotiated with the school.
You have a right of appeal for a place at any school for which your child has been refused a place by the Admission Authority.
Applications for places at our school are managed by Nottinghamshire County Council; the school does not deal with places directly. The school converted to an academy on 1st September 2018, joining The Flying High Trust Partnership, and will therefore be responsible for processing admission appeals only using the FHP Admission Appeals Form.
The appeals deadline for September 2022 has now passed.
